House of Pain + Pain & Gain = House of Pain & Gain. It’s no secret that I love mashups. So, it should come as no surprise that my first ‘original’ series with Dailymotion would mashup-based. The first ‘episode’ of the series was supposed to debut when the Michael Bay based-on-a-true-story action-comedy hit theaters. Yeah, that didn’t happen. I feel like this was a good premise that could have been better executed with a higher budget but given the money we put into it, it does the trick.
“Jump Around” is a staple of stadiums nationwide, most notably at Badger Stadium in Wisconsin, but no matter where you play the jam, it gets a hoppy reaction. As for “Pain & Gain”, I was initially psyched to see it because it was the meathead, testosterone-fest counterprogramming that I craved given all the boy band / nerd culture overload saturating the market. And then I watched the 60 minutes episode that gave the REAL story the movie is based on and I got a little queasy.
I’ll still probably give P&G a go, but it’ll be interesting to see how far Hollywood can stretch the ‘based on’ angle.
