New York Giants fan Neal Lynch recaps Big Blue’s biggest comeback win in 74 years, a 31-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals after being down 20-0 at halftime and 28-7 in the 3rd quarter.

In this clip from “Giant Mess”, New York Giants fan Neal Lynch recaps Big Blue’s biggest comeback win in 74 years, a 31-28 win over the Arizona Cardinals after being down 20-0 at halftime and 28-7 in the 3rd quarter. We’ll also talk about the most interesting stats including a feat no other QB in NFL history has ever accomplished.

*The Giants trailed in the third quarter, 28-7. The 21-point deficit is tied for the largest they ever faced in a game the Giants rallied to win. This is their third such comeback, the second against the Cardinals and their first in almost 74 years.

On Dec. 2, 1945, the Giants fell behind the Philadelphia Eagles in the Polo Grounds, 21-0, before Arnie Herber caught four touchdown passes to give them a 28-21 triumph. The Giants repeated the feat on Oct. 30, 1949, against the Cardinals, who were then based in Chicago. Playing in Comiskey Park, the Giants were in a 28-7 hole at halftime before surging to a 41-38 victory.

The Giants gained 439 yards, the second-highest total of the 21-game Brian Daboll era and the most they’ve had in a victory; they totaled 445 yards in their loss last Dec. 24 in Minnesota.

*The Giant’s 321 net passing yards were also the second most they’ve had and their highest total in a victory under Daboll; they threw for 324 yards last Nov. 20 in a loss to Detroit.

It was the first time the Giants were shut out in the first six quarters of a season since 1934 (first seven quarters). Let it be noted the Giants won the NFL championship that season, beating the Chicago Bears in the famous Sneakers Game.

The Giants were the first team to surrender at least 60 points in a season before scoring since the 1978 Baltimore Colts (86 points).

The Giants allowed the first 20+ points in consecutive games for the first time since Dec. 8-17, 2013, in losses to San Diego and Seattle.

The Giants broke a four-game losing streak to the Cardinals and beat Arizona for the first time since Oct. 2, 2011. That game also required a Giants’ comeback. They trailed, 27-17, with under four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before Eli Manning threw two touchdown passes in a 58-second span to win, 31-27

The 5 best NYG PFF grades in Week 2:

  1. Daniel Jones – 92.5
  2. Jalin Hyatt – 89.9
  3. Dexter Lawrence – 86.5
  4. Isaiah Simmons – 86.4
  5. Tre Hawkins – 78.4

Statistically, no other quarterback in NFL history has ever done what Daniel Jones did in the 2nd half yesterday.

  • threw for 250+ yards
  • rushed for 50+ yards
  • threw multiple TD passes
  • rushed for a TD
  • had no turnovers

No other QB in NFL history has done all of that in the second half of a game.

did it without his franchise LT, a Day 3 pick who missed rookie season w ACL, a backup LG who was benched.

John Michael Schmitz had a 100% pass block win rate vs Arizona

INSANE STAT: The are just the THIRD TEAM in history to suffer a 40+ point loss while also mounting a 20+ point comeback in the same season. The 1949 Bulldogs and the 1987 #Bears were the other two.

The are the ONLY team to have accomplished this feat during a TWO-GAME SPAN in history
