This was my fourth stand up comedy set and my second at the Gotham Comedy Club. I joked about a very arousing infographic, Oscar Pistorius allegedly shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, how drinking has changed over the years, Canadian Mist, Pinnacle vodka, Redd’s Apple Ale, and Dr. Pepper Ten.
The real story that made this set memorable wasn’t in the above video. Allow me to tell it here. Now. To you. I get to the club and the show’s booker gathers the comedians to brief us on the order. I notice there’s a 10-year-old kid there. I immediately think, “That kid needs to leave before my set because I am NOT censoring my sh*t… and I don’t feel like yelling ‘Earmuffs!’ every time I deliver a punchline.”
So, I finish up my set with the Dr. Pepper Ten joke – “Their slogan is, ‘It’s not for women!’ It’s 10 calories, guy. Women will drink c*m once they find out it’s low-fat.” The host, Harrison Greenbaum, comes on stage to introduce the next comic. He goes, “Uh, wow. There’s no smooth way to segue from a c*m joke to our next comic, so here he is. He’s 10 years old. Please welcome Danny to the stage!”
The 10-year-old was a comedian. He followed me. I opened for a 10-year-old. And. He killed it. CRUSHED it. Got WAY more laughs than I did. F to the M to the motherf*cking L.
