This video’s from Now This News reporting on a new interactive LED beer pong table kit called the BPT X5. The sophisticated idea and advanced assembly comes from Installation & Repair Technician Jeff Nybo of Chexal Technologies. So far, he’s raised more than $50,000 on Kickstarter.
If built correctly, the table is capable of:
- displaying the score along with custom animations
- coordinating light animations / displays to sync up with music (shout-out to old school screensavers / WinAmp visualizations that respond to music. Got me through many late nights from 1998 – 2003)
- detecting how many cups are in play (“how dumb can you be?” uh, apparently you’ve never played blacked out at the height of a party’s pandemonium)
- cleaning dirty balls with air baths (I’ll miss the ol’ dip ‘n’ flick technique, but those water cups were Del Grosso, I predict many a testicle might be lost trying freshen up)
Of course, I would love to have something like this, but it would break almost instantly because A) I have horrible luck with technology and 2) me or my friends have a knack for swan diving onto beer pong tables.
I don’t see the word, “indestructible” anywhere. Over/under before it’s broken: 1 weekend. It needs like NHL-style plexi-glass fortified by Real Steel… those robot boxers. Those parts have to be lying around somewhere. Check Hugh Jackman’s pants.
