The New York Giants traded for New York Jets defensive lineman Leonard Williams
The New York Giants traded a 3rd round pick in 2020 and a 5th rounder in 2021 for New York Jets defensive lineman Leonard Williams.
What an insanely stupid move by the Giants. You trade away Snacks because of his hefty contract and draft a bunch of D-linemen to make up for it and now you’re trading for a former first rounder who’s underperformed and will probably want big money following this season since he’ll become an unrestricted free agent.
Are we THAT screwed at the position?
- RJ McIntosh – 63.1 overall grade, ranks in the 80s
- Olsen Pierre – 56.8 overall grade, ranks in the 90s
- BJ Hill – 80.0 overall grade
- Dalvin Tomlinson – 73.8 overall grade, ranks in the high 30s
- Dexter Lawrence – 81.3 overall grade, ranks in the 30s in solo tackles
And we just gave up a ton for Leonard Williams, 62.5 overall grade in 2019.
- 78.2 overall grade in 2018
- 75.3 overall grade in 2017
- 81.4 overall grade in 2016
- 79.4 overall grade in 2015
Sure, okay. PFF called Williams one of the top 25 players under the age of 25 in 2018. They have him as one of the top free agents in 2020. So, we’re trading for him to schmooze him to give us a sweetheart deal for mediocre results?
I’ve heard grumblings that the team isn’t happy with BJ Hill. No way are they giving up on Dexter Lawrence, who looked like a beast through the first half of the season despite going MIA the past 2 games. Among the D-linemen, Lawrence has the highest missed tackle percentage, but he’s also third on the team in QB hurries, pressures and sacks. Are they throwing in the towel on Dalvin Tomlinson? DT is 4th on the team in QB pressures. Are they moving to the 4-3 because we’re so weak at inside linebacker?
Leonard Williams — Dexter Lawrence — Dalvin Tomlinson — BJ Hill
Markus Golden — Alec Ogletree — Lorenzo Carter
Is Oshane Ximines not meeting expectations?
Is it our pass rush? We’re getting more sacks than in recent years but our secondary is still getting torched. And, why are we BUYING at the deadline?!? WE’RE 2-6!!! The season’s done-zo. Had we come out and beat the Cards and Lions and we’re sitting at 4-4, maybe I can fool myself into believing this is a savvy move.
I’m at a complete loss. I could understand trading Janoris Jenkins. I could understand trading Alec Ogletree. Even shipping out Nate Solder and going full on tank mode and embracing the rebuild. I’m still gun-shy about the Solder deal because I don’t want to see our emerging star quarterback carted off the field. But THIS?!?
All-time bonehead move. Hey, listen. You almost have to admire how blindly optimistic Gettleman and the Giants front office is. There’s like a 1% shot we win out and go the playoffs. And we’re like Lloyd Christmas in Dumb and Dumber. So, you’re telling me there’s a chance!?!?
We’re pulling a Jim Fassel and pushing all our chips into the middle of the table, the only difference is we don’t have jack sh*t for a hand. A 2, a 6, and bunch of jokers.
