Jon Hamm’s First Job Before He Was Mad Men’s Don Draper

To promote the April 2015 issue of GQ Jon Hamm reminisces about his first job as a dishwasher at Spiro’s in St. Louis. He basically did what any of us would do when we’re young, dumb, and full of cucumber.

Hamm recently completed a 30-day rehab stint for “alcohol addiction”, which really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who’s ever seen “Mad Men“. I’m more surprised that every single cast member of “Mad Men” hasn’t gone to rehab for being over-served and/or been diagnosed with lung cancer and that includes the kids.

I don’t know why I haven’t tuned in to the show every week live. I like the show. I watched a handful of Season 2 episodes on demand in November 2008, but then I lost track. For some odd reason, whenever I find out that “everyone” is watching a TV show and everyone is telling me, nay, ORDERING me to watch that tv show, it turns me off to that TV show. I need to approach that show and admire / appreciate that show on my own terms. I’ve now started binge-watching on Netflix and I’m amazed by the non-stop parade of cigarettes and loose juice aka alcohol. How did ANYONE get ANYTHING done? I’d be blacked out by lunchtime.

PS If you’re ever wondering what Mad Men would be like if the show were directed by Judd Apatow, here y’go:
