Scarface Ventura: Tony Montana Faces Ace Ventura [Movie Mashup]

Tony Montana aka Scarface faces off with Ace Ventura Pet Detective in this movie mashup I called, “Scarface Ventura”.

This video was my first creation using Adobe Premiere Pro. I’d never used the application before sewing this bad boy together. After Patrick Bateman v Superman, I sat down and brainstormed a long list of potential mashups and this one stood out the most. Then I dug into the material some more and found that these two movies are made for each other!

Both characters are based out of Miami, Florida: Tony Montana aka Scarface immigrates to The Magic City from Cuba, Ace Ventura appears to have been a resident for some time. One’s a detective, one’s a criminal. They even wear similar floral button down shirts.

As you can see from the video, crossovers abound:

  • The cops grilling Tony Montana about a mental hospital
  • Ventura posed as a patient to gain access to a mental hospital’s files
  • Cops asking Montana if he ever dressed like a woman
  • Ventura butted heads with and open-mouth kissed Captain Lois Einhorn (sean Young) who was (SPOILER ALERT) later revealed to be former Miami Dolphins kicker Ray Finkle.
  • The mansion
  • The torture scenes
  • Hell, Scarface‘s Alberto The Shadow is played by the same actor (Mark Margolis) who portrayed Mr. Shickadance in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the idea behind Ace Ventura was, in some small way, influenced by Scarface.

Jim Carrey even does the “Say hello to my little friend” bit from Scarface in Ace Ventura When Nature Calls, using a skunk in place of a rocket launcher. I would’ve loved to include that in the mashup, but couldn’t find a high quality clip.

This project brought back a lot of awesome memories. I remember seeing Ace Ventura Pet Detective in the theaters when I lived in Cranston, Rhode Island. I probably watched it on VHS every damn day over that summer. Same goes for the sequel. Saw it in the theaters than ran that VHS ragged. It was an after-school ritual.

Scarface is another story. To this day, I still think I haven’t watched it from start to finish. Mostly because, it’s long as f*ck and watching it on cable is an entire day experience.

Anyway, let me know what you think in the comments! Suggestions are always welcome.
